Band Bio

Formed in 2001 by neighbors in the town of Port Republic, Everyday People takes its name from the Sly and the Family Stone tune of the same name. It is an apt name as not only does our 7 piece band play horn driven 60’s and 70’s soul, funk and R&B but all of the members are regular working folks living in the Shenandoah Valley. The band’s horn section is made up of trombonist Alan Heneberry, a piano technician at Gary’s Piano’s in Harrisonburg, Tim Stuart, a music major at Bridgewater College on tenor and alto sax and Craig Hofstetter, an accountant with Cargill on trumpet. Sharon Ryder is the lead singer. She graduated JMU as a vocal major and works for Harrisonburg Construction. The rhythm section is comprised of Bob Adamek, owner of Lower Rawley Woodworks custom furniture shop on bass, Jim Cochrane, an occupational therapist at Augusta Medical Center on guitar and Mike Clem formerly of Pony Express and Tommy Wood on drums.

The band was started when Bob and former drummer Andy Perrine, discovered they shared a love for funk music. Bob then asked Jim to sit in and introduced him to the funky sounds of The Meters, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and a host of others. The guitar player was hooked and in the humble surroundings of Andy’s garage, Everyday People was formed. The band has changed and grown over the years while maintaining a focus on providing danceable classic tunes from the Blues Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Sly and the Family Stone and James Brown. We also play some more “Up to date” material such as Macy Gray and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy as well as some updated versions of some Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Sometimes we even round it out by putting on some funky 70’s threads! So if you like to dance and enjoy music that puts a smile on your face c’mon out and join the party!
