Alan's Bio

Alan started playing music as a trumpet player in the 3rd grade. He switched to trombone his freshman year of high school in 1969. He became a music major at James Madison University, then Madison College, until 1976. He played trombone for the next 12 years in the northern VA. 17 piece swing band Kaleidoscope. He also subbed for the Tom Cunningham Orchestra at that time. Alan continues to play with the swing band Just Jazzin’ as well as stints with the Charlottesville based Sentimental Journey Orchestra. He also plays with various brass ensembles each year around the holidays. Alan was the first member of Everyday People’s horn section, joining in February of 2002 and is responsible for writing out the majority of the horn charts. By day, Alan is a piano technician and an active member of the Piano Technicians Guild, Richmond chapter.
